DDES Remembers D-Day – June 6th, 1944

Take a moment, DDES Community, to remember the sacrifices made by the Allied soldiers who participated in the D-Day landings on June 6th, 1944 (70 years ago today). This was one of the major battles of World War II.

Thousands of Allied troops landed on 5 separate beaches at Normandy encountering well-prepared German soldiers. Canadians were responsible for one of the 5 beaches (Juno) and our soldiers bravely accomplished their goal in the face of stiff and bitter fighting. Without the D-Day landings the war simply could not have been ended.

While we do not glorify war, we do recognize the sacrifices made by our soldiers and their families. Canadians enjoy the freedoms we do today because of the sacrifices made by earlier generations.

The picture attached is from Canadians landing on their beachhead (Juno).
