Be Fire Chief for the Day!

Deadline for entries is Friday, October 7, 2011

Grade 6 students in Kawartha Lakes have the opportunity to be Fire Chief for the Day as part of Fire Prevention Week activities.

“Students need to write a 50 word essay on this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme ‘Protect Your Family From Fire’,” said Fire Prevention Inspector Ron Woolfrey. Two winners will be selected from the entries received.

Entry forms are available at Fire Headquarters at 9 Cambridge St. N in Lindsay, at Municipal Service Centres, or online at

www.city.kawarthalakes.on.ca/fire. Deadline for entries is Friday, October 7, 2011.

The winners will learn what it takes to be the Fire Chief on Friday, October 14th as they have a fun, interactive half day at Fire Headquarters. This will include meeting fire service staff, learning how fire apparatus is used and the duties of a fire chief. They will also receive a firefighter helmet which is theirs to keep.

Fire Prevention Week runs from October 9-15.
