Don’t be caught without a flu shot. It’s free and easy to get!
That is the message that the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is sharing this fall. With influenza season on the horizon, the best way for families to protect themselves is to get an annual flu shot. Flu vaccine is safe and effective, and helps to reduce the risk of getting sick from influenza. In Ontario, flu shots are publicly-funded and available for everyone six months of age and older.
While flu shot clinics will not be provided in local schools this year, there are many other places to get immunized:
· Ask your local health care provider about getting a flu shot
· Visit your local pharmacy to be immunized. Dozens of pharmacies in the area are providing flu shots for anyone over the age of five years.
· The Health Unit is offering community flu shot clinics in Northumberland County, Haliburton County and the City of Kawartha Lakes. These clinics are ideal for families with young children, as the clinics are open to everyone over the age of six months.
For a flu shot clinic near you, or for more information, call your local Health Unit office or visit www.hkpr.on.ca .
