The Lindsay branch of the City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library will once again be hosting the successful EAGER READER CLUB during the months of July and August.  This is a peer-tutoring club – young readers are paired with student volunteers who provide reading practice as well as encourage the enjoyment of reading.  Each pair meets in the library for one hour each week in the summer.

The Library is looking for student volunteers as well as young readers to participate in this program.

Student volunteers must have completed at least Grade 6, be good readers and interested in helping younger children. This is an excellent opportunity for high school students to work toward their Community Involvement diploma requirement and to gain work experience.  Student volunteers are asked to pick up an application form at the Lindsay Library and arrange for an interview and orientation session.

To be eligible for this program, young readers must have completed at least Grade 1.  Advance registration is required and young readers will be accepted on a “first come first serve” basis.  Every effort will be made to accommodate the young readers, but this depends on the number of volunteers available.  Application forms are available for parents to pick up at Children’s Services, Lindsay Library.

For more information contact the Lindsay Library at 705 324-9411 ext. 1332.
