School history

Dunsford District Elementary School (DDES) opened in January 1978 with 263 students enrolled and 14 teachers on staff. Since that time, the student population has increased and an addition to the original building was completed in December of 1989.

School goal

At DDES, our goal is to ensure optimal student development through effective education within a safe and supportive learning environment.

School philosophy

At DDES we believe that:

• Our purpose is to educate children to be lifelong learners; to provide them with the skills, knowledge, and values to make satisfying and worthwhile contributions to society and the future.
• School must be a safe, inviting, and dynamic place to learn where everyone feels welcome, cared for, valued, and important.
• The best interests of the student must be the reason behind all decisions and actions, and that shared decision-making should involve everyone involved in the school partnership.
• Effective communication is crucial to good school and community relations.
• School is an integral part of the community and the community is an integral part of the school.
